What qualifications do you have?
I’m a qualified Massage Therapist with a professional BTEC Level 6 Diploma - the highest qualification currently available in the UK.
I also have an ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Massage, a Practitioner’s Diploma in Advanced and Deep Tissue Massage, and a Practitioner’s Diploma in Chair/Seated Acupressure on site Massage.
What does ITEC Level 3 Diploma mean?
ITEC is a leading international specialist examination board. An ITEC qualification proves you have:
full knowledge and understanding of the subject
the highest level of practical skills
certainty that you are a professional therapist able to work internationally (recognised in over 33 countries worldwide)
Are you insured?
Yes, I’m fully insured with Balens Insurance Ltd.
I’m also a member of the Sports Massage Association. That means that I’m a highly qualified professional therapist, that I will continually update my skills and knowledge with further CPD (Continuing professional development), and that I will abide by the SMA Code of Conduct and Professional Practice.
Very few complementary Healthcare Therapies are regulated, so it’s important to ensure that your therapist is qualified, professional and insured before making a booking.
How is the massage carried out? Do I need to undress?
For a 60 minute massage treatment you will lie on a lovely massage table during the treatment. You need to undress to your underwear, but you’re always covered by towels and I make sure to maintain your modesty at all times. Please note that massage wax or massage oil will be used on the skin.
Seated Chair Massage is common for fairs, events, pamper evenings, conferences, at work, etc. The massage is performed on a very comfortable specially-designed massage chair and you’re fully clothed the whole time. No oil or wax is used.
What does a massage feel like?
To most people, a massage is generally a relaxing and positive experience. However, depending on how much tension there is in the muscles, some areas might feel uncomfortable.
Deep/Sport Tissue Massage requires a considerable amount of pressure, which in some cases may cause some pain and discomfort.
Everyone is different, which is why it’s so important with client feedback and communication during the massage, to ensure that I work within your comfort zone.
You may experience some muscle soreness or tenderness after a massage, but this should decrease after the first 24-48 hours.
What does ‘holistic massage’ mean?
A holistic approach aims to restore balance within the body, taking into account a person’s whole being and not just their physical symptoms or ailments.
How do you know what suits me?
I always do a consultation before the start of any treatment, completely free of charge. The consultation form is then used as a basis to create a tailor-made treatment plan, specially designed to fit your needs and requirements.
At all the following treatments (before the massage), we will look over the consultation form again to see if there’s been any changes since the previous treatment.
All information is of course treated as strictly private and confidential.
I’m pregnant, can I still have a massage?
Yes, but only if you are at least 3 months pregnant and providing there are no medical conditions. It’s advisable to check with your GP or midwife before you book a massage.
There are also massage therapists that are qualified in pregnancy massage.
If you are less than 3 months pregnant, you cannot have a massage yet.
I have some pain/an injury/a medical condition, can I still have a massage?
If you have a specific medical condition it’s a good idea to discuss this with me at the time of booking. Whilst massage is a very safe treatment, there are certain conditions that may require special attention. It may be necessary for you to consult your GP before treatment can be given.
Please remember that complementary therapies are not to be used in place of conventional medical care.
Is there a minimum or upper age for massage?
There is no upper age for massage, as long as there are no medical contradictions. Each treatment is always adapted to suit the client’s needs, no matter what age.
There is no legal minimum age for receiving a holistic treatment, but therapists who intend to treat a person under the age of 16 need to make sure that they’re practising in accordance with a number of Government Guidelines and Acts 1-3 concerning the welfare and safety of children. Nordic Necessities of course abides by all government rules and regulations.
For instance, it’s important to establish that the child wants the treatment on a voluntary basis. The client will also be made aware that they are entitled to change their mind at any point during the treatment, and a minor will not be examined or treated unless a parent or guardian is present and has given their written permission.
